March 18th, 2025

March 18, 2025 | Lubbock, TX  There was a Dust Advisory in Lubbock that residents need to be aware of.

Lubbock drivers faced extreme weather this week. Powerful winds blew through the area, causing a blowing dust advisory. Gusts reached 81 miles per hour, cutting visibility and making driving dangerous.

What Happened?

On March 14, the National Weather Service reported wind speeds between 40 and 45 mph. Some gusts hit as high as 81 mph in Lubbock. These strong winds stirred up dust, creating serious hazards for drivers.

Officials warned drivers to be extra careful, as visibility on roads dropped to near zero.

The wind and dust didn’t just affect drivers. Strong gusts also damaged property, knocked down signs, and caused scattered power outages. Pedestrians and workers outside were at risk from blowing debris. Schools and businesses reported delays and closures because of the dangerous conditions.

Why Dust Advisories are Dangerous

Blowing dust and high winds are more than a nuisance. They are a real danger. Low visibility can cause multi-vehicle wrecks, especially on highways. Even experienced drivers can’t always react fast enough.

Wind-blown debris can damage cars, break windows, and hurt people walking outside. Roadways become slippery or obstructed by debris, adding to the risk.

Authorities often remind drivers to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles. In these conditions, even small mistakes can lead to large pileups.

Who Is Responsible During Severe Winds?

Bad weather doesn’t remove driver responsibility. Drivers must adjust to the conditions. They should slow down, stay focused, and use extra caution. If a driver fails to do this and causes a crash, they may still be legally liable.

Victims of these crashes face serious challenges. Insurance companies may argue about who is at fault. Victims might have medical bills, car repairs, and missed work. This is why having an experienced legal team on your side is so important.
